Gallery NOW OPEN 4 E. Main St., Luray, VA Thur. - Sun. 10-5 PM - Memorial Day 9-3 PM

Working from his studio in Luray, Virginia, GmGrant knows that he could simply get by painting idyllic local images like cows, goats, barns, mountains, etc.. While he certainly indulges in those from time to time, he also realizes that art must feed the soul, beginning with his own. So, what you'll see in his work is a mix of conscious intent, subconscious expressions, and images which reach beyond the world we see and into the hidden world we all struggle to comprehend.
Non-representational abstraction can be enticing - yet may leave the viewer wanting for meaning. Realism can deliver initial power – but then lock the viewer into a cage of visual literalism. Artist, Gm Grant, pursues an alternative approach. He works as a figurative painter, employing the techniques of a realist while also exploring content that defies quick summary or easy interpretation. This enigmatic realism is inspired by the work of early 20th century surrealists, minus the focus on overt dreamscapes. By placing seemingly incongruent objects in the same interpretive space, the artist challenges viewers to work with or against their own patterning instinct. They might find hidden meaning and sensible equations, or they might come away with unanswered questions, an experience akin to catching fleeting glimpses of action in the periphery. Either way, the images engage. The impressions endure.
Gm Grant’s career as a creative and artist spans a diverse multi-media gamut for clients such as Disney, SeaWorld and Marriott International. His award-winning artwork can be found in private collections across the country. Gm Grant lives and works in Luray, Virginia, inspired by the regions high-climbing landscapes and subterranean dimensions.
